Say it ain't so.

It is September.

For golfers here in Chicagoland, the season is starting to wind down.

We're trying to squeeze in as many rounds as possible before winter hits, the temperatures drop, and eventually the clubs get put away.

But the end of golf season doesn't mean you should stop thinking about your body.
In fact...

YOUR PREPARATION FOR NEXT SEASON CAN START RIGHT NOW.

Because your body just gave you an entire golf season's worth of information.

What bothered you?
What kept getting tight?
Where did you lose motion?
Where did you feel weak?
What did you constantly have to manage just to keep playing?

Don't throw that information away.

Use it.
Because before you decide what you're going to do this offseason, there's a much more

important question:
What does your body actually need?

That's where the Body BluePrint comes in.

THE BODY BLUEPRINT IS THE GATEWAY INTO MUSCLE ACTIVATION TECHNIQUES

This is one of the most important things to understand about the Body BluePrint.

At Golf MATchanics...

YOU START WITH THE BODY BLUEPRINT.

The Body BluePrint is the gateway into Muscle Activation Techniques.

We look at your history.
We see how your body moves.
We identify what deserves a closer look.

Then MAT becomes the process we use to begin working through what we find.

Think of it this way:

THE BODY BLUEPRINT GIVES US THE MAP.

MAT GIVES US THE PROCESS.

DON'T GUESS. ASSESS.

The Body BluePrint is our comprehensive physical assessment at Golf MATchanics.
Before we start trying to change muscle function, we need to understand the body we're working with.

And the goal isn't to find 47 things wrong with you.

We're trying to figure out:

What's working?
What's not working as well as we'd like?
Where are the gaps?

And most importantly...

WHICH GAPS ACTUALLY MATTER?

Because you don't need an offseason filled with random exercises for every possible limitation.

You need priorities.

STEP 1: BUILDING YOUR BODY'S HISTORY

The Body BluePrint actually begins before the physical assessment.

First, we have a conversation.

What are your goals?
What's going on with your body?
What happened during your golf season?
What are you trying to accomplish?
And does the Body BluePrint make sense as your next step?

If we agree that it does, you'll complete an extensive health history.

Don't blow through this part.

Because we're beginning to build something important:
YOUR TRAUMA MAP.

I want to know what your body has been through.
And we're not only talking about this season.
We're going backward.

10 years.
20 years.
30 years.

Did you play sports?
Have surgeries?
Break bones?
Sprain an ankle?
Have knee problems?
Back problems?
Shoulder issues?
Car accidents?
Falls?

What happened to your body years ago that you may have completely forgotten about?
All of that starts going onto the map.

Why?

Because your history gives us clues.

An ankle injury from 25 years ago might have absolutely nothing to do with what's happening today.

Or it might give us an area worth investigating more closely.

We don't automatically look at an old injury and say:
"There's the problem."

Instead:

HISTORY GIVES US CLUES.

STEP 2: DAY ONE — G.A.M.E. + J.A.M.

The Body BluePrint is a two-day process.

Day One is about gathering information.

We have your history.
We have your trauma map.

Now we want to answer another question:
HOW WELL DOES YOUR BODY ACTUALLY MOVE?

We use two assessments to start answering that:

G.A.M.E. — Golf Athletic Movement Evaluation and
J.A.M. — Joint Assessment of Mobility.

G.A.M.E. — THE BIGGER GOLF PICTURE

The G.A.M.E. gives us the golf-specific side of the assessment.

We evaluate you in your golf posture and use a K-Vest to measure what's happening.
We're looking at your setup.

We're looking at how different segments of your body move together.

And we're looking at your ability to separate those segments.
This can become an eye-opening moment.

I might ask you to separate your pelvis from your torso.
In your head...

you're doing it.

Then you watch the video.

And it's:
"Holy crap. My whole body moved."

I see this constantly.

A lot of bodies move like one big block.
Some areas move extremely well.
Other areas barely move.

This may be the first time a golfer starts to really understand what separation and isolation are supposed to feel like.

And there's another important piece.

The area that feels tight...
or even the area that hurts...

isn't automatically the area I'm most interested in.

Sometimes that area may be doing a lot while another area isn't contributing enough.

That's why:
WE DON'T JUST CHASE WHERE YOU FEEL IT.

The G.A.M.E. gives us the bigger picture of how your body is organizing movement.

J.A.M. — NOW WE ISOLATE THE MOVEMENT

Next comes the Joint Assessment of Mobility.
Now we go from those bigger golf movements to looking at your body in a much more isolated way.

We'll look at skeletal posture.
We'll assess you standing.
We'll assess you on the table.
We'll compare your left and right sides.

Then we'll look at individual ranges.

Hip flexion.
Hip extension.
Pelvic rotation.
Side bending.
Shoulder motion.

And other areas that correlate with what we saw during the G.A.M.E.

What we're really trying to answer is:
CAN THIS AREA MOVE UNDER YOUR OWN CONTROL?

This is an active assessment.

We're looking at how well your muscles can move your body through isolated motions under your own volitional control.

I'm not simply grabbing your leg and pushing it somewhere.
You're creating the movement.

That's important because when you're standing, your body creates what I call an orchestrated solution.

Everything works together to accomplish the task.

But when we start isolating areas on the table, we get another look at what those areas can actually do on their own.

Then we compare that information to what we saw during the G.A.M.E.

END OF DAY ONE: PUTTING THE CLUES TOGETHER

At the end of Day One, we have:

Your health history.
Your trauma map.
Your G.A.M.E. and K-Vest data.
Your J.A.M.
Your postural assessment.
Your left-to-right comparisons.

And a whole bunch of clues.

Then you go home.

Because we're not making a snap decision based on one movement.
I take that information, break it apart, compare the findings, and begin building your Body BluePrint.

Then you return for Day Two

STEP 3: DAY TWO — YOUR IMPACT ZONE REPORT

When you return, we'll go through your Impact Zone Report.

We're not trying to overwhelm you with every tiny measurement.
We're looking at the highlights.
The things that really pop.

And by this point, most golfers already have some idea of where they struggled.

They felt it.
They saw it on video.
They saw it with the K-Vest.

Now we can start connecting those findings back to golf.

If your pelvis isn't moving well...
if your torso struggles to rotate independently...
if you can't separate certain segments...
or if one side is significantly different from the other...
could those limitations be influencing how your body moves during golf?

That's what we're trying to understand.

And now we can start determining:
WHAT DESERVES OUR ATTENTION FIRST?

YOUR FIRST MAT TEST SESSION

Now we begin the MAT side of the process.
Depending on what we've found, there are different tools we may use.

That could include MATRx.
MAT NeuX.
MAT Athlete.
And eventually MAT43, where strength can begin entering the process.

But before we decide where the process ultimately goes, we need to see how your body responds.

During that first MAT session, we're going to:

ASSESS.
TEST.
TREAT.
RETEST.

We assess movement.
We test muscles.
We identify areas that aren't responding the way we want.
We treat those areas.
Then we retest.

And then we check the movement again.

Did the range improve?
Did control improve?

Did something that felt restricted start moving differently?
If you had discomfort, did that response change?

The important thing is:

WE'RE TESTING THE RESPONSE.

We're not simply assuming something worked.
That's why this is your first MAT test session.

YOU LEAVE WITH A STARTING PLAN

The process doesn't end when you walk out the door.
You'll leave with some specific homework.

Simple isometrics.
Motor-control work.
A few exercises connected to what we actually found.

Nothing crazy.

This isn't a random 45-minute workout.

The goal is to reinforce the work we're doing.

We'll also create a Google Drive where your Impact Zone Report, homework, videos, and other information can live.

Now instead of simply saying:

"My hip feels tight."
We have context.
We have your history.
Your movement.
Your report.
Your MAT response.

And your starting plan.

NOW WE HAVE DIRECTION.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER THE BODY BLUEPRINT?

One of the biggest questions is:
"Do I do one MAT session, maybe two, and then I'm good?"

Not exactly.

Think of this as:
PERSONAL TRAINING FOR YOUR NEUROMUSCULAR SYSTEM.

This is the beginning of the Strength Spectrum.

Initially, I typically like to see somebody weekly.
We're starting by building neuromuscular capacity.

As your body starts responding better, the goal is for you to exercise better, golf better, and recover better.

Already have your own training program?

Great.

The goal is to help your body become better prepared to handle it.

Don't have a program?

Then we can start looking at where you go next on the strength side.

Because this isn't simply about chasing pain.

WE'RE BUILDING CAPACITY.

The goal is to improve the muscular system before pain becomes the only signal you're paying attention to.

This is neuromuscular strength training.

WHY THE END OF THE SEASON MAY BE THE BEST TIME TO START

Your body just went through months of golf.

Thousands of swings.

Walking.
Practicing.
Traveling.

Playing multiple days in a row.

Your season was essentially a real-world stress test.

Don't wait until February and suddenly say:
"I guess I should get in shape."

Look backward before you move forward.

What kept showing up this season?
Where did you feel limited?
Where did you lose strength?
Where did you lose motion?
What did you have to manage just to keep playing?

Your offseason shouldn't just be about doing more.

IT SHOULD BE ABOUT GETTING MORE SPECIFIC.

Three Takeaways

1. YOUR SEASON GAVE YOU INFORMATION
Don't ignore what your body showed you.
Use that information to guide your offseason.

2. DON'T GUESS. ASSESS.
Before trying to fix everything, figure out what actually deserves your attention.

3. THE BODY BLUEPRINT IS THE STARTING POINT
History gives us clues.
Assessment gives us direction.
And MAT gives us a way to start testing change.
